My annual pilgrimage to the seashore, together with dear friends Gill & Mieke. This year No.5 Coastguard Cottage becomes our retreat space. The view to the sea and beyond is, as ever, calming, invigorating and inspirational. We create a home away from home. The old wooden dining table becomes a place for simple feasts, mugs of tea and creative goings on. Candles are light, soup simmers in the kitchen, the door opens to the sounds of the sea and wind. I unpack a box of inks, dip pens and brushes, mixed media and sewing kit. The kettle is put on once again, and the white page of a new journal, a landscape sketchbook is revealed. I start to mull about the process of creative unfolding. How we can challenge our blocks of negativity, old beliefs, things that prevent us from revealing our most innermost thoughts, which ultimately can lead to unearthing potential. We three sit around the table and quiet settles, ideas start to flow. It is so mindful and renewing, for body/mind and spirit, drawing up memories from the past, and seeing them stitched into the present moment. Later we climb out to enjoy the evening coastline, gathering this and that along the way. I find a rocky outcrop and enjoy sitting journaling on the edge. On our return we place findings and offerings on the dresser. A joy…
